July 2008

Yorkshire Tourist Board White Rose Awards for Tourism, 2008 Finalist

We were shortlisted in the following two categories of the prestigious White Rose Awards for Tourism:

  • Guest Accommodation of the Year
  • Taste of Yorkshire Award

The awards recognise and reward excellence in tourism, Yorkshire and the Humber's largest and fastest growing industry.

The winners were announced at a glittering awards ceremony at Bridlington Spa on 25th September 2008. As in 2006, we were up against some very fierce competion including much larger organisations than us. We didn't win but were absolutely delighted to reach the finals and would again like to say a big "thank you" to all our guests. Your comments in the visitors book and on Trip Advisor (see right) played a large part in our nomination.

September 2007

'What the papers say'

Yorkshire Post magazine 15th September 2007:
"Look out for Thorney Mire Barn, its name being the least attractive aspect of a very appealing bed & breakfast establishment - with not a thorn or mire in sight. Owned since 2004 by Simon & Jane Hudson, it has built up a considerable reputation among those for whom a single day in this area is simply not long enough."

June 2006

Yorkshire Tourist Board White Rose Awards finalist

We were shortlisted in the following two categories of the prestigious White Rose Awards for Tourism, with 71 of the top tourism businesses in the region named as finalists across 13 categories:

  • Best  Newcomer to Tourism
  • Tourism Website of the Year

The awards recognise and reward excellence in tourism, Yorkshire and the Humber's largest and fastest growing industry.

The winners were announced in September 2006 and, while we didn't win (we were up against some very fierce competion including much larger organisations than us), we were absolutely delighted to reach the finals and would like to say a big "thank you" to all our guests. Your comments in the visitors book played a large part in our nomination.

In 2006 Enjoy England completely revised the rating system. Diamonds previously applied to Bed and Breakfasts and Guest Houses and are now being replaced by Stars.

Guest Accommodation:
"Includes the categories Guest Accommodation, Bed & Breakfast, Guest House, Farmhouse, Inn, Restaurant with Rooms (no star rating)."

"Five star Guest Accommodation:
The highest standards of quality and service with a feeling of luxury. All rooms will be ensuite or have a private bathroom."

Gold AwardGold Award

On 08 July 2005 we were informed that we had been awarded the Enjoy England Gold Award.

"While Star ratings are based on overall quality, Gold and Silver Awards recognise comfort and service in areas identified by guests as being particularly important to them. These include quality of bedrooms and bathrooms - facilities, comfort and ease of use - and the service received and its efficiency. Factors which may help achieve the awards include: excellent service, very well decorated bedrooms and bathrooms, high quality furniture and fittings, ease of use including good space in both bedrooms and bathrooms, very good accessories with excellent personal touches. (These are neither exhaustive nor exclusive)."
